reaction they BOND TO THE METAL SURFACES OF THE COOLING SYSTEM and act

by penetrating any leaks (even the external ones!) and
subsequently forming a strong and durable rivet-type (with 'head' at
both ends) 'filling' which effectively plugs-up and seals-off the

Thereafter, when exposed to the air, it cures, and when it cures -
it hardens, and when
it hardens it turns into an absolutely 'bulletproof' and 'fireproof'
mass which is even stronger than the original Head Gasket, and which
then serves as a permanent
a permanent separation, between the Coolant Passages and Combustion Chamber, or
Lubrication Oil Passages, (and even as an EXTERNAL STOP LEAK ) anywhere
within the Engine Heads, Cylinder Blocks and/or Head Gaskets.
On top of all this, and in addition to the basic metal bonding
ingredients, there are also other ingredients to not only prevent any Electrolytic Corrosion
or Rust, and/or 'Scale', from forming in the entire Cooling
System, but also included are ingredients which act as a Cooling System Conditioner as well as a water pump lubricant .
All of this guarantees that the product will NOT cause or do any harm
(such as 'clogging') to the Engine, Radiator, Thermostat, and/or the

The main reason for all the overheating and related
problems on the NORTHSTAR ENGINES
is actually a 'chain
reaction' which starts at the root of all causes - the electrolytic
corrosion - caused by the micro-Galvanic currents which exist between
the 2 unlike metals: the Aluminum Alloy castings of the Cylinder Block
and the Cylinder Head - which are held together by the Cylinder Head
currents' will practically strip the threads, electron by electron -
'so to speak', from the inside of the Cylinder Block, and the result
will be the deterioration of the strength, with which those Head Bolts
are holding the Engine Cylinder Block / Engine Head
assembly together... and any attempt to re-torque them back to specs is
useless as any re-tightening will only do more damage to the threads...
But the first symptoms of the problem will be that, on acceleration, or
on long up-hills,
or at high speed, when the NORTHSTAR ENGINE
is put 'under heavy strain' - it will start to overheat!
What happens there at that point is that the hot exhaust gasses, which
are at 800 to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, and under a tremendous pressure,
will start to penetrate - through the 'separation' (in the microscopic
terms, initially) between the Cylinder Block and the Cylinder head -
which 'separation' is momentarily created at the point of 'heavy strain'. This Exhaust Gasses
leak will also cause the initial failure(s) of the Head Gasket, and
this leak will only get worse and worse with time... until the point is
reached where overheating is so bad that it is no longer drive-able.
The only remedies commonly used to mitigate the stripped threads in the
Cylinder Blocks when the heads are removed are the 'Heli-Coil' type
Threaded Inserts made of
high strength Tool-grade Steel.
However, as great as the Threaded Inserts are, the mandatory Larger Diameter re-Drilling
and re-Threading of the Cylinder Block, to
accommodate those larger Diameter Threaded Inserts,
and the unchanged Diameter Head Bolts,
own problems and some very detrimental 'side effects': it significantly
aggravates the porosity issues and worsens the seepage problem - both of which are
in all Aluminum Alloy Castings, and especially so in the NORTHSTAR ENGINE
And so after all that expense, and all the time, and all the effort,
the entire process is back at 'square one' - the Cylinder Block now has to be SEALED-UP anyway
- but only once the whole Engine is put back together, reinstalled into
the vehicle... and made running!
But, on top of all these, there is one ultimate concern about the Cylinder Block, and
even the Engine Heads, which renders the whole idea of such an
undertaking - totally useless!
It is: INTERNAL CRACK IN THE
ENGINE BLOCK, OR INTERNAL CRACK IN THE
If indeed there is an
INTERNAL CRACK - which is invisible - it can all be in vain!
And so all this un-necessary 'monkey-business' of CADILLAC
rebuilding process -
just for the sake of rebuilding the NORTHSTAR ENGINE
... and only to arrive RIGHT BACK to the same
point of having to SEAL IT UP! ... which is, well... it is exactly this FUTILE PROCESS
that HEAL-A-SEALTM was designed to prevent!
For all these reasons, the CADILLAC
were really NOT designed to be rebuilt!
Although there are now
several Northstar specialized shops... (but still very pricey!) even
the Cadillac Dealers
will only do the Head Gasket replacement at a cost of $4500, but with NO Guarantee, whatsoever!
around you would also find that the Cadillac Dealers really do not want
to do the Head Gasket
replacement! Instead they want to sell you a NEW ENGINE! And they
typically want to
$9500 (in California!) for a new (OR REMANUFACTURED!) NORTHSTAR ENGINE
cost one can buy not one but 2 very good used cars of the same mid/late
1990s or early 2000 vintage!)...
Of course there is
still another alternative - of replacing the
problem NORTHSTAR ENGINE with another USED NORTHSTAR ENGINE...
but that is also a bad idea as
those engines already have the same
disastrous Blown Head Gasket type symptoms.
That is exactly why
